THE M6 has been closed by police over a “very critical incident” with drivers going through prolonged delays.

The main motorway is closed for a “police-led incident” between Junction 6 (Gravelly Hill/Aston) and Junction 8 (M5).

A spokesman for West Midlands Police stated: “We’re on the scene of a really critical incident on the M6 and the motorway is at the moment closed Northbound between Junction 7 and Junction 8.

“It’s closed Northbound between Junction 7 at Nice Barr Interchange and Junction 8 on the M5.

“Street closures are anticipated to be in place for a while, and drivers are suggested to seek out various routes.”

A spokesman for Highways England added: “The M6 within the West Midlands is closed northbound between J6 (Gravelly Hill/Aston) and J8 (M5) on account of a Police led Incident.

“Emergency Providers together with West Midlands Police are on scene.

“Nationwide Highways Site visitors Officers are in attendance aiding with site visitors administration.

“Police investigation work is in its remaining levels. As soon as full carriageway clearance will happen after which the highway might be reopen.”

  • Proceed alongside A34 northbound to the signalised junction with the A4041 and switch left onto the A4041.

  • Proceed on A41, eastbound to M5 junction 1. At M5 junction 1 take 4th exit, onto M5, southbound.
