The Barbican will bear a year-long closure to hold out ‘essential repairs’ and ‘unlock underused areas’ as a part of a £191 million revamp.

The Grade II-listed website’s buildings are stated to have ‘considerably deteriorated’ over time.

Philippa Simpson, Barbican director for buildings and renewal, stated: ‘This can be a defining second for the Barbican.
