BERLIN — German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is convening an emergency digital summit on Wednesday with European leaders, U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The decision comes forward of Friday’s summit in Alaska between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the warfare in Ukraine.
The digital summit will concentrate on stress choices in opposition to Russia, questions on Ukrainian territories seized by Russia, safety ensures for Kyiv and the sequencing of potential peace talks, a German authorities spokesperson informed POLITICO.
Merz and different European leaders demand that Putin first agrees to a ceasefire earlier than any peace talks or land swaps between Moscow and Kyiv can happen.
The spokesperson added that the digital conferences will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, starting with a one-hour dialogue together with leaders from Finland, France, the U.Ok., Italy, Poland, plus the European Fee and European Council presidents in addition to Zelenskyy and NATO chief Mark Rutte.
The schedule then comprises a one-hour dialogue from 3 p.m., between the European leaders and Zelensky, with Trump and his Vice President J.D. Vance.
