Sir Keir Starmer has refused to repeat a pledge made by Rachel Reeves to not impose extra tax rises on companies.

On the Confederation of British Business (CBI) convention on Monday, Ms Reeves stated she wouldn’t be “coming again with extra borrowing or extra taxes” when requested if she might rule out an additional enhance in enterprise levies.

Her remarks had been broadly interpreted as a promise to not enhance taxes on companies throughout the remainder of the five-year parliament after the Nationwide Insurance coverage rise within the Funds.

However challenged on the despatch field over the Chancellor’s promise, the Prime Minister stated he was “not going to write down the following 5 years of Budgets”.
