The UK’s army tools is “simply not adequate”, the Defence Secretary has admitted.

John Healey made the feedback the day after asserting that the army might be hit by £500 million value of cuts, with six programmes throughout the Armed Forces to be scrapped.

Mr Healey informed the defence choose committee: “The quickly altering nature of warfare, amplified by the accelerating growth of expertise, signifies that the form of capabilities largely that we have now are simply not adequate for the longer term.

“After we work with allies, we have now to be sure that our UK contribution isn’t only a main contribution to the collective deterrence and energy of our alliances, however can also be a part of the vanguard that sees us setting the tempo of a number of the needed transformations.”
